GESO Releases “Yale Inc.”

February 9, 2011

On Wednesday, February 9, over 250 graduate teachers and researchers who work at Yale University rallied behind the release of a new report, “Yale Inc: The Corporate Model in Higher Education.”

Members of GESO, the Graduate Employees and Students Organization, are seeking union recognition.  The report describes how the people who do the work of the central mission of the university – teaching and research – have been left out of decisions about the university’s work, decisions that are instead being made by managers who have focused on the bottom line. Welcome from the Chair, January 2011

Dear Colleague,

Welcome to Yale! We are members of GESO, the Graduate Employees and Students Organization, and we would like to tell you about our union and why we see it as a vital and vibrant part of the graduate experience at Yale.

As an organization of graduate students and teachers, GESO seeks to achieve recognition for a union that can protect, promote, and represent the interests of all graduate employees. Over the past two decades, we have run successful campaigns to win full and equal funding, free health care for graduate students, parental leave and numerous other benefits. Read more.
