Since the creation of GESO in 1989, graduate teachers at Yale have demanded a voice in academic governance and the decisions affecting their life and work at Yale. Through our campaigns, we have won fair wages, comprehensive healthcare and improved benefits while playing a crucial role in galvanizing a national movement of graduate teachers. Last year, we joined with our allies at the University of California and other universities in a National Day of Action to Defend Higher Education (March 4). Next year, we will continue to insist that graduate students and employees have a voice in determining the course of their research and their access to teaching opportunities at Yale.
